Florian Pucher started out as an outstanding student in the Faculty of Architecture in the University of Austria, studying under renowned architect Zaha Hadid. After working in Paris and Rotterdam as an architect, he has now managed to make a name for himself in the exclusive world of carpet design with his particular method based on using aerial photographs.
I am also developing a costume jewellery line under the brand name Curio, and I’d love to reproduce the Landcarpet collection on a larger scale, for example for public spaces.
Florian has been living in Beijing now for some years, working in a variety of different capacities linked to his training, and it was there that he began to work with graphic designer Sophia Liu Bo. It is thanks to this background that his Landcarpet series has become his most successful visual language.
The designer says, “the truth is that I have also been surprised by the success of my carpets, because it wasn’t a project that I’d done much research into previously. I just make sure that my work reflects the things that I am truly passionate about. I love plays on words and decontextualisation, mind games and unusual combinations of materials.
