Five years ago, José Cámara y Braulio Rodríguez opened Space Brut (www.espaciobrut.com), a small shop in El Rastro, Madrid’s flea market, to offer their personalised and customised designs. Their furniture, almost all made of wood, is simple and refined and it uses colour to create contrast to the pieces. From its current new location in Pelayo, 68 Space Brut is not only a work place but also an exhibition gallery and a shop which offers products from different backgrounds with a clear fondness for Nordic design.
‘We feel comfortable working with wood; it is a warm material, it ages well and it supports different finishes’.
‘We mainly use birch plywood, but we also have a line of solid oak’.
‘We would like to start adding other materials, like steel –which we have used in the past– or brass and copper, but at the moment we are just working with the different possibilities of wood’.
‘We have used maple, poplar and walnut in some of the projects’.
‘Our style is no-style’.
